it's actually ok to compare these two bands; in fact NWBHM was a big infuence on early thrash. And I also think the early Maiden albums were even an influence on Metallica.

its not a good reason! NWOBHM owns all new genres of metal IMO. so can u compare Deicide and Slayer?
another example Black Sabbath inflenced Doom Metal, but can u compare Black Sabbath with My Dying Bride?

of course you can compare, in terms of similarities and differences, it doesn't mean they have to be the same.

Aye. If it's not comparing, it's contrasting. I sometimes get shy about deeming one better than the other, so I get tempted to duck it by throwing the apples-and-oranges trump card. It's fine as far as it goes, but it tends to be a discussion killer.

Yes. I am agreeing with you. It is perfectly acceptable to put Iron Maiden and Metellica together and suss out their similarities and differences, and we can also render a judgement on which is better. (Backing it up with reasons of course. )

i believe every new topic and poll must have an explanation, so if your argument is correct, one can even make a Sabbath vs Maiden poll.

the poll is asking the reader's opinion as to which one they prefer. it is solely a matter of preference. they can be compared in this light just fine.

Well.. Iron Maiden

1. Iron Maiden's musicians are way better than Metallica's
2. Iron Maiden is versatile and varies while sticking to their style
3. Iron Maiden stayed real not Metallica (even if, i must admit, last Maiden album sucked) but still look at Metallica with St. Anger, Death Megnetic, Load, Reload.. lol I mean thats alot of failures.

So yeah.. im for Maiden all the way

one could argue that ALL polls on metalstorm are meaningless. do they actually accomplish anything? most of them are simply popularity contests in the first place - all too often respondents do not even know all the bands/musicians listed or they simply don't bother to read the damned question in the first place and just respond by picking their favorite artist.

my personal favorite was the poll which asked "which country of these produces the best BM" and listed the US, France, Finland, Sweden... in the comments the OP made it clear that he left out Norway as it would be the clear runaway winner. And yet half the posts on the thread were "What about Norway?!?? ZOMG!"

Why are you always bringing number of fans and popularity in the discussion? That doesn't help any argument. The popularity factor does not make a band better than another. I understand you prefer Metallica more than Iron maiden, but don't try to prove others wrong with this"more fans" argument, it certainly does not work in your attempt of argumentative point of view.

no no no! dont get me wrong! I like some of maiden's albums but I say that its imppssible that maiden has more fans! I say why ppl vote against metallica even if they r not maiden's fans! and i know that noone can answer me but the ppl who did this!
but Im really tired of this Argument about metallica, cause noone likes to accept the fact. u, me and everyone knows that metallica has more fans than any metal band, AND IM AGREE THAT AT LEAST 70% OF THEM RNT METALHEADS!!!!!
and im sorry about it! but the fact doesnt change, they have more fans and u can see it from DM's sell. and its nothin when a band have more fans, but the ppl who votes against metallica in every poll, think that they can change the fact.
ME MYSELF, LIKE TO BELIEVE IN THIS POLL! cause I dont like to see that A BRITNEY SPERAS'S FAN LISTENS TO FUCKIN TALLICA.

I am not a Metallica fan, I don't believe in the "fan" concept anymore (remember fan is short for fanatic ); and I have been buying Metallica's albums for almost 2 decades now (even the dreadful St Anger, I gave it for free to a friend). I still don't understand why you take everything people say against Metallica so personally, it bothers you so much when anyone critisises them; after all everyone is entitled to an opinion, and most people have provided arguments and explained their choices.

This topic is not about who's better Maiden or Metallica, but which of these two do we like more.

When i first wrote in these poll, I chose Maiden and I still do; I think their are more competent musicians than Metallica, just listen to the guitar duo Smith/Murray, it still works after all the years, Hetfield and Hammett don't have that chemistry anymore, they used to, in the 80s at least. Both bands have created some high standards at some point, with groundbreaking albums such as Number of the beast/Powerslave/Seventh Son..., and the Burton era of Metallica (which is amazing), so it is hard for both bands to create something to raise to that level. But at least Maiden can still deliver surprisingly good songs; Metallica went downhill for a while (honestly more than a decade) and provided a good album this year. The new album was meant to please, this is the truth (whereas IM's 2006 was a successful experiment, for me at least, there are people who do not like it).

Also listen to the the bass/drums section of Maiden and then to the one on Death magnetic; Metallica still refuses to envolve the bassist in the writing process (I can hardly hear the bass on death magnetic ??) - and Trujillo is a talented musician, let's hope thing will change and he will co-write songs (although I am skeptical).

sorry for babbling for so long....

yes, my nick contains the word fan, but as i said don't believe in this concept anymore; (I just named myself marillionfan when I joined this forum, for the people to see/understand tha I'm not the typcal metalhead.

The bass is hardly listenable, doesn't stand out - that's why i agree to what some people say about the production of the album. here's hardly a cohesion between bass and drums.

I can hear the bass so clear. Rick Rubin is the fuckin producer did u know? all of Slayer's albums Produced by him and a lot of others! and as I know he is one of the greatest Producers ever!

yes, Rubin is a great producer, I know, but still the band did whatever they wanted, I don't even know if they listened to Rubin - otherwise why are the drums so up front and the bass is too low in the mix. I might be mistaken, the album is not so greatly produced. IMO of course.
