One of Germany's most successful bands of all time along with the likes of Scorpions and Accept, Helloween are celebrating their 25th anniversary in style. Unarmed is not just any compilation album, this is a disc of completely re-recorded and re-arranged songs from throughout the band's history. It will certainly catch you off guard as the band put on their smartest suits and jazz it up with this compilation of acoustic rock versions of all your favourite songs.

2010 was definitely an interesting year for Helloween, wasn't it? The two albums they released that year were practically polar opposites of each other: one was this album, an acoustic re-imagining of some of their best hits, and the other was arguably their darkest album to date, the awesome (and my personal favourite album from this band) 7 Sinners. In celebration of this band's upcoming (at the time of writing) 14th album, I figured it was time to examine this album. And the results...are very hit and miss, if I'm honest.

I can't help but think that when I spoke to Markus in 2008 and I asked what the new album would be like - his reply was with this album in mind. He said "very different" but wouldn't tell me how...

I am loving this, what I am hearing so far.

It's really sad to see those metal heads with a limited mindset. This album is brilliant, every song is performed professionally. A perfect 25th anniversary gift for their real fans. Enjoy!

I really like the new versions of these classic Helloween songs! I'm glad they mixed it up and tried something different!

Seriously guys, give it a chance. Don't just write these songs off because they arent carbon copies of the originals.

I do admit I was wondering if I got the right cd at first when I head the saxophone on Dr. Stein lol.

Eagle Fly Free better? It sounds like a song form Alfred J. Kwak or a similar kiddie cartoon...

And I find it extremely funny to see a Serb mentioning a Dutch kid musical from 1976

No way on earth is the new "Eagle Fly Free" better.
I don't know if I would say any are "better"... but some of them are very good indeed. It is fresh. Fresh is good.
"Where The Rain Grows" is one of my favourites on here, but then it was one of my favourite songs originally.

It was quite popular here during the '90s (synchronized, of course). I still know the tune.

Yeah I just saw it was made into an international kids cartoon from 1989 to 1991 or something like that.
I even own two original cassettes of the songs used in the kids' musical and later in the cartoon. All lyrics of course in Dutch

I cant help myself...comparing carefully both versions of "Eagle Fly Free", i still like the new version more...i guess it is this sort of melancholic atmosphere in there...the old is in general much faster and more "powered" song, which has something as well, but it hasn't affected me so much

When i first read the news about their decision of making another greatest hits album i thought that they should 100% avoid it but even though the idea of re-recordings could be promising for an interesting album- just interesting because anyone who would allege that he was expecting that the new sound could overpass the original classics could be nothing more than an idiot or at least a newcomer to heavy metal. Unfortunatelly in my country the album won't be released until the end of the month. The comments i read are really disappointing i hope that they won't be totally verified in my ears...

This album is like what Kiske like to do after Keeper 1 & 2 . Acoustic shit !!! This album is so fucking bad. This isn't even power metal anymore but there is one good song : The Keeper's Trilogy.

Sounds a lot like Chameleon, which is the most underrated album by any metal band ever. I love this so much, just saw the Dr. Stein video and I'm gonna order the album right away!!!

A perfect release for my birthday, haha.

You guys hardly seem to get the point. It's not a simple acoustic album, it's a set of completely rearranged songs. Some jazz, symphonic elements, but definitely not pop. Do you really wish they had come out with another CD with a bunch of remastered songs like other bands always do?

May I say it's a hilarious masterpiece. A gift for the fans. BTW, I'm sure they will make loads of new metalsongs, too.

Happy Helloween!!!
