Before long, unless if this post of mine is the last post on here, I predict that there are going to be a lot of people saying that Tristania's "early material was awesome and since then they have gone to crap".

and those people will be wrong, because with the exception of the masterful 'Beyond the Veil' Tristania have turned their initially generic style into something more warm and much more unique, though sadly very unappreciated

especially considering how many valuable members they have lost, they've still managed far better at staying interesting than their conservative peers

Its all a matter of opinion, and my opinion is that old tristania with vibeke like widows weeds, beyond the veil and even world of glass are pretty masterful, and I absolutely despise of the newer. I wouldn't call it crap, but fake.

Just last night I had a dream that Tristania released an album called "Slaying the Decadent Light" and it included 17 songs which were all written in Hebrew. The cover art had a picture of all the members dressed in some baggy ghetto clothes and the way they were shaped against the monochrome background looked like something a Photoshop newbie would make as his first exercise. There was a review and it said the music on the album hadn't changed radically though.

Anyway, this isn't the first time I'm expecting something very different from Tristania. This time I'm kind of worried about it, because the new singer doesn't fit their old songs at all, at least those samples made me cringe in a bad way. I hope she has improved in these two years or that the band has discovered an unexpected direction in the music and offer a positive surprise. I'm surprised if it's not going to be a surprise.

Graveheart I think a psychoanalyst would have great fun discussing your dreams with you I must say, more on topic, my favourite Tristania album is actually Ashes...and I went through a period where Illumination was my fave, they really found something over those few years. The 'new female singer' thing can kill a band dead though. Look at Sirenia.

THeir first 3 albums were masterpieces, especially World of Glass for me. But then there was a disapointing Ashes, however Illumination was already great. But now when VIbeke is gone, and they Hired some pop chick i am not expecting anything than Forever Slave version 2.

My fear is, they will begin to sound like every fuckin' female fronted gothic "metal" bands out there, be it Sirenia, Within Temptation or Theatre Of Tragedy and some 30 less known others. The biggest surprise for me was when I discovered Flowing Tears - both frontwomen are fantastic!

Finally some moving forward. Like all you guys I'm a little sceptic about this "new baby". But I think it will flow the same direction as Illumination. I mean, really, even in that one Vibeke already dropped her soprano vocals (maybe just Destination Departure, The Ravens and Deadlands had them), so we might get more cathier stuff on the new album like Sanguine Sky and Sacrilege.
I wish all the best for them in whatever "evolution progress" they will take, they are one of my dearest favorite bands, after all.
