Not that there isn't plenty of mashed up Death/Black violence, but there's also a truckload of melody to be found on Trumpet Of Triumph. Trumpet of Triumph is packed with fast solos, quicksilver melodic stings, and bridges and counter passages to dissonance. And with that, comes a lot of accessibility. And that, as retarded as it may sound, is not what I want in my Christraping S8N-worship Metal. (Yes, that's an official genre.) ToT's biggest problem however lies not in the overkill of melody, but in the weakness of the vocals. Too often the vocalist retreats in supposedly kult rasps, which simply sound too weak to impress. Too bad, because he does possess a good growl. His defence will be the variety-card. Not a bad idea, but you have to have mastered the various styles you wish to use for that to work.
In short, Godless Rising's Trumpet Of Triumph is a short burst of well-composed and well-written melodic violence. In my personal opinion, it could have been a lot more evil and dissonant then it is now, but I fully realize that I'm no member of the band and I'm just one of the six billion people inhabiting this world. Many, many people of extreme metal will be able to enjoy this, they might even break into the Arch Enemy crowd with a bit of luck and one or two compromises.
