"Land of the Free" is the first Gamma Ray album without Scheepers on lead vocals. From now on Kai Hansen takes his place, so we can say good bye to old Gamma Ray and welcome to the new. The album could not begin in a better way: "Rebellion In Dreamland" is one of Gamma Ray's best songs for sure; for a long time it was my favourite. It's a song in which you can find good drums, a great solo and beautiful epic parts. "Men on a Mission" is a fast song, good old power metal. "All of the Damned" has a nice catchy chorus and so has track 11 "Abyss of The Void." Track 7, "Farewell," is a good ballad. Here we have the first guest on the album, and what a guest it is! Hansi Kürsch, Blind Guardian's front man, contributes his voice in this song which makes it much better. "Salvation's Calling" is another fast song, but there's nothing too special in this one. The next song, "Land of the Free," has it all. It has fast and slow parts, a nice chorus and good guitar leads which makes it one of the best on the album. The second guest appears on track 12, "Time to Break Free;" again I could say "what a guest it is." Michael Kiske sings the whole song, and does it so good that the song becomes another highlight. Gamma Ray is one of those bands I kinda took for granted for a long time... and once I started listening a little more, I was totally hooked, and this album is definitely among my favorites.

That's the first album of theirs i've listened to and i am not as imperssed as i'd like... All of the Damned is an awesome song though..

While Helloween was struggling in 90's this band kept legacy alive, even its not their best and somehow nothing about perfect but better as weird 3 90's helloween albums

Another real classic power metal album, and a genuine must have for any power metal fan, it flows perfectly well, has the epicness, the cheesyness (but not too cheesy), the catchiness, and the amazing vocals, that define a true power metal album! And with some real classic songs such as: "Rebellion In Dreamland" One of the best power metal songs ever, and one the best opening songs to any album have heard, "Land Of the Free", and "Man On A Mission" and "Gods Of Deliverance" are also great songs.

It's interesting to see so many 'overrated' and 7-8 ratings comments for this album, I would say it's one of the best power metal albums ever made (3rd in my books after 'Imaginations from the Other SIde' and 'Far From The Madding Crowd'). This album is a fantastic mixture of speed and melody. 9.0/10 for me - 'Rebellion in Dreamland' is the standout track. 'Man On a Mission' and 'Land of the Free' are both also fantastic.

What can I say about this album... It's brilliant, excellent and highly influential - perhaps in the top 3 of the best traditional Power Metal albums ever, along with Somewhere Far Beyond and Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I. "Rebellion In Dreamland" it's like a Gamma Ray's own "Stairway to Heaven" - amazing, beautiful and epic anthem with awesome Hansen's vocal performance! Other most beloved songs would be "Abyss Of The Void", "Man On A Mission", "All Of The Damned", "Gods Of Deliverance" and the title track. If you want to know what German Power Metal is all about - this is a perfect place to find out!

Hard, melodic, epic - just a fantastic record. Kais vocals are better then Ralphs. While Helloween went down to s**t after the Keeper LPs (and for shure WoJ with Kai on vocals was far, far, far better!) GammaRay made a lot of solid albums. LotF is their best IMHO. Followed by SoiS.
