One of Germany's best bands in this day and age is The Ruins Of Beverast. With their amazing debut they already conquered my heart, and hopefully I was not the only one. "Rain Upon The Impure" is the follow up from that grand debut album and displays a little change of style. Of course, when one takes a look at the impressive discography of Alexander Von Meinenwald, the sole member of Ruins.., he would have expected already that the new album would not just be a blatant rip-off from the debut.

This is my beloved work of Alexander and one of the best black metal albums I've ever heard. I don't blame the production... All you have to do is increase the volume of your speakers. An unforgettable journey.

That being said, I'd still like to hear a remastered version without the pressed production. I find turning the volume up isn't as effective as it could be as the levels are too indistinct.

Awful production keeps me from finishing this, let alone enjoying it. Why couldn't it have sounded like the two albums between it?

Same here. It's really what has always kept me from enjoying this 100%. Increasing the volume actually only makes it worse, it almost feels like it hurts my beloved speakers.

This album is darkness incarnate. Just incredible. The production might be lackluster, but in the end, that is hardly the most important part. Every song, everything about this work is perfect. Probably the only atmospheric BM album I enjoy more then Lurker Of Chalice.

Had no issues with the muddy production. Monumental album, one of the finest examples of (modern) black metal.

Great album. I listened to it like seven times now (would have been much more often but it's stupidly long so it takes some time to listen to it in a row) and it always leaves me sitting with closed eyes feeling extremely uncomfortable and moved at the same time. That's the feeling I want to get when I listen to Black Metal.

Vinyl rip. Some tangible improvements to the CD versions, mostly notably the lead guitar and vocals which come through much stronger and louder. Generally far less muddy. Definitely the definitive version.

There's also an extra track on the end, an Unholy cover called 'Neverending Day'.

Cool, now that it doesn't sound like garbage, it actually sounds pretty good.

Yeah, could actually be the best TRoB record after all.

Just had a TRoB marathon today and its my favourite by them too. I actually havent any problems with the production at all.

I don't think it's ideal, but I've certainly heard a lot worse.

Oh it certainly isnt ideal but it in my opinion it suits the atmosphere and the music just fine. I think with clearer production I wouldnt enjoy it as much as I do.

Just so damn good. The vinyl version should be mandatory listening for all.

I never listened to the vinyl version today and I definitely can see why you say it is much better. I fucking love this album to death, even though it seems kind of cheesy sometimes like with the sample on Soil of the Incestuous.

I will never understand people that dont think this is perfect, what (the fuck) are they looking for? Or what have they found that I didnt find? Possibly the best black metal album ever made.

And I agree that its mandatory listen (vinyl or not), like it or not, but every conversation on black metal is better with this as a bit of its foundation.

Dunno about best ever, and personally Foulest has always been my favorite ROB, but this is definitely one of the best examples of an album that actually benefits from poorer production. Von Meilenwald knew what he was doing here for sure and it wasn't a mistake.

I know exactly what you mean and I agree, but can we stop talking about poor production? In my mind there isnt such thing just different aesthetics.

It is the best ever. Although that is just my opinion, and I get why some people may not like it or how it may just not be someone's "thing", unlike LoG who just thinks his opinion is fact

Listening to these talented guy's discography once again, and I cannot neglect highlighting how this work perfectly captions what makes up the top of my sonic experience with metal: black, and some pitch of death and doom, the three main styles I usually fall allured by when I'm into a more depressive, aggressive and poetic vibe. Such a supreme masterpiece.

I know some people would find listening to this album the whole way through to be quite tedious and boring in parts, but I loved every second of it from start to finish, it had such a great doom and gloom atmosphere, the vocals were truly menacing and it felt like going on an epic journey through some kind if hellish place.

I didn't find anything wrong with the way it was produced, it was perfectly balanced for creating the dark atmosphere intended. Also this is the album that got me into atmospheric black metal, and helped me appreciate doom metal more.

Some great atmospheric black metal here - the choir-like vocals work especially well to break up the monotony.
