really surprised by the last album. Never found it more than just good.
You shouldn't That's a post-black masterpiece in my book.

yeah maybe, but I've never been a huge fan of post-black to start with.
would have loved to see esoteric or arizmenda in your top 10

Arizmenda is in my top 5. This list changes a LOT nowadays but as of now:
1. Blut Aus Nord | The Work Which Transforms God
2. Perturbator | The Uncanny Valley
3. Ahab | The Giant
4. Dragged Into Sunlight | Hatred For Mankind
5. Arizmenda | Within The Vacuum Of Infinity...
6. Lurker Of Chalice | Lurker Of Chalice
7. Acid Bath | When The Kite String Pops
8. Aluk Todolo | Occult Rock
9. The Ruins Of Beverast | Rain Upon The Impure
10. Esoteric | The Maniacal Vale
Don't expect the same list a week from now.

Huh, you gave me a really hard task...
1) Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God
2) Lurker Of Chalice - Lurker Of Chalice
3) The Ruins Of Beverast - Rain Upon The Impure
4) Murmuüre - Murmuüre
5) Negură Bunget - OM
6) The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand
7) Blindead - Affliction XXIX II MXMVI
8) Ahab - The Call Of The Wretched Sea
9) Cobalt - Eater Of Birds
10) Altar Of Plagues - Teethed Glory & Injury
Now I'm listening to Eater Of Birds again.

Good list, but The Giant is my least favorite album from the Ahab catalog

Wouldnt call it straightforward. straight forward black metal is darkthrone in 90s.

Yeah your right, but its not like blackened death or something. It can be labeled as just black metal. Kind of reminds me if Deathspell Omega was inspired by raw black metal and old school war metal like early Revenge and Black Witchery. I don't know.

All you have said is true, but songwriting-wise this album is far from being your generic/straightforward BM

Exactly. I should have mentioned that. I didn't exactly mean generic, I just meant it didn't mix with lots of other genres and get REALLY experimental, although it is a bit experimental.

It depends on what you expect... TCOTWS is probably the most crushing kind of doom known to the human world. The Giant, however, has those post-metal elements which makes it pretty chill-out stuff at times.

I've heard it before, and that is pretty much why I liked The Giant more. Believe me I like crushing stuff, but with Ahab I like the soft clean stuff mixed with a little bit of crushing.

Spectacular list. Except some sludge/doom which I'm not so much into, all others are necessary albums; maybe not for someone new to the styles, but definite must-haves for any moderately seasoned listener at the very least. Thanks!

Oh dear, lol. Actually, it has good handpicked stuff for doom/sludge for me to discover and build a good taste from the beginning. Alkerdeel Morinde didn't disappoint at all, for example. One of my fav lists, with a great menu card.

I've finally finished this list and it has been a very interesting, reinvigorating refreshing experience to go through, with some artists I've known the name for years that this finally forced me to check out like Darkspace and Negurá Bunget as well as blasts from the past like The Gallery/Jester Race and White2 (which I feel it now to be one their most complete albums). Thank you for taking the time to compile this it's meant alot.
I know I had mentioned Agalloch before I had started this list but as I was going going through some that didn't click with me I had started to go through in my mind what I would have placed instead. Besides Agalloch, the others I kept thinking that are worthy are....
Burzum - Filosofem
Chaos Echoes - Transient
Cathedral - Any of their first three albums.
Sabbat - The Melody Of Death Mask
Sleep (maybe they just miss out)
Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle
Type O Negative - World Coming Down .......although October Rust is usually the norm preference, this album is much more emotionally crushing and one of the heaviest doom albums in how personal it gets, it keeps it real even its ballad like anti-single, Everything Dies.
Tryptikon - Either release but maybe on the more Eparsitera Daimones.
Its great to see how theres so much correlation with the community on what we most definitiely like on lists like this and the other list shown on here. But the interesting part about it are the only small tweaks everyone has in preference what makes ourselves that bit much more unique about looking at each other reflectively. =P
