Of all the young French bands Gojira is without any doubt the most promising and probably the most talented. Even if their first two albums were already excellent and even if we all know that a third release can be fatidic, it can also be a nice confirmation. It's a confirmation yes, a confirmation of all the potentiality of this amazing combo and it's not really surprising to see that all the media in Europe say that it is one of the best release of the year 2005. "From Mars To Sirius" is a must?

It's not an easy task to try and approach From Mars To Sirius with fresh ears after a decade and a half of insane acclaim heaped onto it. It's commonly accepted as the peak of Gojira's entire career, as well as the album that caused them to be regarded as one of the ultimate competitors for the modern metal throne. And it's not like it's hard to see why; with two incredibly promising albums under their belts, Gojira were steadily becoming more progressive and ambitious with every outing. More atmosphere, more stylistic diversity, and more sonic density were all creeping into the band's sound, so much so that their old Godzilla days sounded like the recordings of a completely different group. It's not like their core intensity was being muted, but instead that it was being twisted and manipulated into several new and exciting genre-shifting creations; and THAT is exactly why From Mars To Sirius succeeds so wildly.

People keep sending me these weird PM's asking me what album I want to be buried with just in case I should die later tonight in mysterious circumstances (the fuck is going on guys?).

Well, lo and behold, one of my favorite all time classics right here. My "Holy Jesus on Ice Skates" meter just keeps going off the charts every time I play this ridiculously awesome record... to use an understatement.

Not my favorite genre but this album kicks ass. Blast at high volume and listen. The drumming is bloody intense and the riffing is like a steel factory. Enjoy this masterpiece.

Corrected.

I'm with Willy on this one. I gave it a handful of listens and never thought of it as anything better than background noise.

And not the good kind of background noise. The annoying kind where you're begging for silence. Or to be listening to something else.

wow ...

I'm really unsure as to what I found so offensive about this album back in the day... I've re-listened to Gojira since and while they aren't among my favorite bands, I don't actively despise their sound either. I was probably just feeling edgy the day I wrote that comment.

At first I really liked it, because it sounded a lot different to anything I had heard, and I was not expecting the riffs to sound as heavy they did, or the songs to be as progressive with a death metal style.

But after listening a few more times I became bored very quick, some songs I found dragged on a bit too much and became a bit too repetitive. I still think this is a good album tho, just not as good as I first thought, but as this is rated as thier best album by a long distance, it makes me unfortunately want to not bother listening to the rest of their discogrophy.

I never knew this was such a great album. I cared to visit it only after I started to listen to their latest outing Fortitude. Even though I liked their last one Magma I was never thinking of checking their old ones but I repented today for being late. Such a classic album.

also listen to Terra Incognita and The Link for the heaviness and badassery if you haven't already

Some riffs are great and heavy, and some riffs are kind of annoying. For example, I don't like the riff of the first song, but the second and third songs are good.
The vocals are similar. Theyre sometimes interesting and sometimes boring and annoying.
Overall, the album is OK.

For me this is a strange album, I too found some songs boring and some interesting, some of the riffs did get annoying aswel, but I think the overall sound quality is great, I quite like the heavy guitar tone, unfortunately the vocals kind of got annoying aswel.

I usually end up skipping, tracks as I find it hard to get through the whole album.

Yeah, that summarizes my views as well. From the Sky is my favorite, though! That song I must admit is awesome

This album is so good. So many bands have jacked both guitar riffs and guitar tone from this album.

Bands changing direction is a natural part of their existence, and Gojira have made good music on their last two albums, but I'm curious whether diehard fans that defend musical shifts like the post-Magma era as being equal or greater to what came before fully appreciate what bands such as Gojira accomplished on their greatest albums. From Mars To Sirius is genuine wall-to-wall bangers; pretty much every proper song between Ocean Planet and Flying Whales would be arguably the strongest song on any of their other albums, and then "In The Wilderness" comes in and arguably takes things to an even higher level with that unbelievable outro.

This is an album I come back to every now and then, but I never could properly get into it. The only song here that really resonates with me is world to come. I'm still genuinely impressed that this oddball of an album managed to make Gojira the biggest French metal band in the world, but I guess we like to do things differently when it comes to art.

Overall it's a very good album, heavy and catchy riffs, the structure of the songs is good, although for me the first two tracks seem uninteresting. I'd like to highlight Flying Whales, which for me is by far the best song on the album.
