The DVD's a waste of time. Don't bother putting it on unless you just want to listen to it.

Not the biggest fan of black metal with the obvious excpetion of Immortal. Excellent!

Great album, better then previously version and seems band came back whit something, and I dont remember reason why band did split up, but this is good, a little bit winter touch, not such strong as before, but you can feel it, my fav song is In My Kingdom Cold

Love the influence Zeppelin has on black metal, especially on tracks like "Tyrants" and Behemoth's "O Father O Satan O Sun" that both borrow the main riff from "Kashmir".

So far I don't like it as much as At the Heart of Winter. Let's see how more spins do this album justice.

Dang, this is good.

I certainly agree that the band were aiming for the same musical direction with both this effort and Damned in Black, but I have to say that Sons of Northern Darkness has more memorable moments. Ideas are stretched a little further (which results in my favourite thing about the album being the last three songs) meaning that generally the song lengths here are justified whereas before (apart from At the Heart of Winter of course) some songs seemed a little rushed. I guess that's the punky, thrashy side of the band rearing its ugly head. But yeah, here I enjoyed pretty much the same thing that I appreciated on ...Winter, which is that pretty much every song demonstrates a more (please don't murder me in my sleep for mentioning this term, BM kremlins) "progressive" song structure. Because of this, "Antarctica" and "Beyond the North Waves" are brilliant.

One by One is a sick song and the rest of the album fails to live up to it, and even gets pretty mediocre and borderline boring.

A more mature At the Heart of Winter and the peak of the sound Immortal began on the Pure Holocaust. Which is better between this and AtHoW is a question akin to between the 1000th woman you bed and the 1098th you bed which represents the greater achievement.

Hahhahahaaahha does it matter how many wonen you had, ? if you are sucker in bad you cant be better, same in metal, this is good album, more raging, more grimm, more as Immortal all is about

the more women you bed the better you become in sex, unless it's different in Norway. I agree it is the most grim and raging of the Immortal discography and surely personally it is my favorite Immortal Album.
