Nostalgia pieces, avante-garde, experimental. It seems there's always an angle these days. What's wrong with a some straight forward aggression and solid riffs? Nothing. Let's not be misunderstood here, Synarchy write some intricate and thoughtfully constructed metal, but the delivery is just nice and simple.

Synarchy really have themselves a really modern sounding album here; it's cold, crushing, yet crystal clear & catchy melodic death metal. There's a few electro type synths thrown in there, not in any major way, but the whole thing brings to mind the sort of bleak, futuristic sounds of Dark Tranquillity. Mix things up with a few riffs & vocal switch-ups similar to that of Mercenary's latest, and you've got the basic idea. It's distinct, well thought out, yet still incredibly basic in one aspect; riffs made to move you. Synarchy do explore a few compositional complexities here and there, but rarely do they stray too far from what delivers to the basic instincts. It's actually quite commendable how they've managed to create a solid metal album that works on both levels.

Tear Up The World is just a fantastic mix of Teutonic thrash, melodeath, metalcore, and maybe a touch or two of that Gothenburg sound. Perhaps it's a little too much? Not that they don't blend the styles seamlessly, which they do, but they tend to overextend themselves with songs that drag on and on. All but one song on Tear Up The World clock in at +5 minutes. Which would be fine, had the songs been able maintain the same quality they opened on. In other words; the song starts, you dig it, the riffs are great, everything flows, it feels like it should be wrapping up and moving on, but instead they just drag it out. After 10 songs of this, a lot of what should be memorable parts seem to get a little lost in retrospect.

The music is great in and of itself, even if a little self indulgent when it comes to length. Synarchy seem like a band that really has the potential to hit mass appeal, they just need to start making their music a little more direct and succinct.
