The first one dominated my life. It was my first contact with "heavy music".

Oh I totally agree...my very first contact too. I was listening to mostly Top 40 in 1978 when I was 11 yrs old and my parents were into country. Wierd Old Country man...stuff like Conway Twitty and Charlie Pride geezus lol... Then one day I had the radio on and this wierd sound started coming out of it. As I listened it got louder and then slowly droned down and segued into the lowest coolest ass bass notes I had ever heard. Then the guitar came in...wow...I was seriously hooked. My journey to the dark side was complete with one song. Runnin' with the Devil baby! The rest of the album was simply just as stunning, pheonomonal, incredible as that first song. A watershed moment in the history of music there can be no doubt. Favorite band and album forever!

Thanks man! Yea that Rush album is just some killer shit isn't it. Very profound and such a fully realized piece of work. Yet so many fans say they dont like it because of the heavy keyboard usage and the way they relegate Alex to the background. It is true but the music and songwriting is just so strong. The songs arents really riff oriented but, that doesn't mean Alex doesn't get to jam his ass off during them. Anyways I love it!

The song writing is some of Rush's best work ever, musically and lyrically. "Middletown Dreams" is my favorite track; I especially love Neil's lyrics on that one...

We can tell just by your username My father gave me a "best of" cd of the band. Ain't Takin'' Bout Love was, probably, the first rock song I've got into. Perhaps I was tired of my mother's gospel music...
