After the huge commercial success and shocking sub genre change from the gothic/symphonic metal band Within Temptation, the fans couldn't wait for their next album to come and it did in 2004. The Silent Force was released and became a bigger success than Mother Earth, becoming a chart topper all around Europe. But was it a success in which the fans were exploding over how fantastic it is? Or were we disappointed that the band didn't give us that spunk we always held dear into our hearts? Let's take a look into The Silent Force.
Let's first clear the air that Within Temptation is done with death vocals from Robert and has moved on into a more different pathway in metal. This album can be described as symphonic metal/symphonic rock. We still hear the angelic voice of lead singer Sharon Den Adel which I was already expecting. But what about the sound? I can answer that question by saying that this album is good and bad. When I was hearing the album for the first time I was amazed by the beautiful music the band had created and I had a thought in my head that the band was not going to disappoint the fans. Sadly after hearing the 9th or 10th song I was utterly board with the rest. "A Dangerous Mind" sounded so popish as well as "Say My Name". "The Swan Song" boarded me for 4 minutes and I was happy when the album was done.
There will be a lot of mixed opinions and review on this album because it just sounds like another symphonic metal album. Nothing really special about it. Most of the songs are beautiful but the album itself was more for new fans and not for the long time fans.
Good album to listen to and I also recommend the first 9 songs and "Jane Doe"; the rest are plain boring.
Best Track: "Destroyed" (Unreleased Track). Yes, it's unreleased and it's probably the best song on the album.

The new Within Temptation, oh my god, we are waiting for it since a lot of time now? Enough of all this re-editions, enough of all this cd singles, we wanted a real new album? And after four long years, we have it!!! "The Silent Force" is out damn finally? But some really important questions remain: how it is? Is it good?? Is it bad??? You recommend the first 9 songs, the rest are plain boring? That's pretty good considering The Silent Force is an 11-track album.  All those bonus tracks and B-sides (some of which aren't even available on any edition of the album) shouldn't really be taken into account when reviewing the album. Some of them are really good though. And "Jane Doe" belongs to the Mother Earth era.About the album; I like it alright. The biggest problem is that it's so samey. The song structures, the sound, the production... it all sort of blends together. Those big choruses usually end up saving the songs though.

I loved this album do much but these useless tracks I said boarded me and also the songs eventually board me as well. I gave it a seven because it wasn't like Mother Earth that standed out. But after listening to the heart of everything I knew they can give me something better than this album. (Which is an average score in my opinion)
