File under Doom & Roll. Or Rawk & Doom. Dock & Room? Who cares. All that matters is Age Of Taurus are here to layeth the riff smack down upon you.

So while Taurus is the Sign of the Zodiac assigned to the bull, there is no bull with this album. Just horns. Lots and lots of metal horns. \m/.

Narrating the woeful tale of a colony where things go all pear-shaped, Age Of Taurus, with one foot in their doom grave and the other in 70s metal manage to spend the better part of 45 minutes beating you about the head and neck with riff after riff after riff.

The album has a few slower pace moments, like the interlude section to close "The Trial Of Blackwynn Chaise", but for the most part it's just one rawkin' riff after another. Initially on in the background as other things were my primary focus, I lost track of the number of times The Colony Slain grabbed me by my short curlies and demanded my attention. I'd catch myself nodding along in time, "oh, shit, that's a cool riff!" "Taken To The Tower", "In Dreams We Die", 90 seconds into "The Lost Garrison" ? so many made me want to go Old Bridge Militia retro with our mop.

But more importantly than just having a collection of good riffs, the manage to use them to craft some great SONGS (as opposed to just meh with good parts)? and the songs themselves craft an album that does a masterful job of narrating a story.

This album was recommended to me with zero prior Age Of Taurus experience (I'm an Epoch of Scorpio kinda guy), but I'll defo be checking out their prior release as well as eagerly awaiting whatever they come up with next.

So with all the mention of riffs, do they fill the void that the recent releases by The Sword have left?

This was one of the worst disappointments for me. The album is pretty terrible imo in almost every way.

Less doom than their previous album, but just as strong.

wasn't a huge fan at first - prefer harsher vocals - but they grew on me with repeated listens. not 100% sold, but I like everything else going on well enough that they don't bother me any more.
