"The awakening" is Caliban's latest release brought to us just to prove how manly and strong they are just because not a single person on earth actually heard their 2006's album called...uhm...something about darkness; anyway, this new album is just another big german kids painted like Good Charlotte failure.

I can't just point at one sucky thing within this album as it almost sucks in its entirety, but the lyrical content totally stole the spotlight as it is just a depressed kid's wet dream with all kinds of stinky relationships, some weird nonsensical words and the annoying use of the word death and all its relatives (like dying, dead, die, etc.) I can't even think someone actually relating to this kind of lyrics, and if someone is actually doing it they should either commit suicide or get some new friends without razor blades in their room and a more original hairdo.

The actual point is, the music is I guess decent, I mean it's metalcore, but even Metalcore has good faces (do you remember With Passion or Beecher?) in this case the guys think it's actually very cool to repeat the same power-chord until their hands die (unfortunately that never happens), then a really cheesy and totally effeminate vocal tone enters and tries to save the situation by being so eerily similar to Kermit the Frog that only manages to give me the creeps...meanwhile the bassist apparently has no idea about what their band-mates are doing so he just starts playing so low that it's just totally impossible to decipher what he's playing (clever move none the less). Well the drumming is good, it's at least really fast and I can fairly say that it's the only heavy thingie in this record.

Okay maybe some Metalcore fans won't totally hate this album, but I'm certain that they won't be pleased either. Fortunately this album came almost for free, I just wish they would have added some tacos and a beer or something to feel better about myself...maybe another couple of free albums would have been also nice...or a basket of porn...and condoms...

I've not heard this album but I don't usually like Caliban. Their older albums are decent metalcore, nothing more nothing less, but the clean vocals really ruin it. I'll give this one a shot just to see, knowing that you Herz are usually really harsh on metalcore bands

LOL, good review. This was ok, I've heard worse, but it was pretty monotonous indeed.

Hilarious review!!!

But I have to say this might actually be their best album. Undying Darkness had song names that made me cringe, but may have been (musically) their best. I tend to like the breakdowns they make, quite heavy at times. It just seems this band needs to show what they are capable of, instead of making an album every year. Nobody likes an album every year, especially if it's rushed.

Many of their songs have their moments - i'm not too cynical, even though i'm not the biggest metalcore fan nowadays. They really need to make an album that captures the best moments under songwriting that will give them more general respect.

I really like this album. The soft singing detracts occasionally, but for the most part, I find it very good. Nice and heavy breakdowns. The lyrical content may be below par, but it sounds great, and that's what I'm listening to. For the most part I could give a **** about what some dude has to say. Give me some good riffs and unintelligible screaming and you will probably be decent in my book.
