Hellenic hellions Speedrush are a band confident in their approach, with their name summing up what they are all about, to the point that any slowing down leaves them open to accusations of faulty advertising. While the name and sound may be generic, the musical offerings are not to be sniffed at, serving up fun, quality thrash metal on their second album Division Mortality. Speedrush aren't aiming to be the most original or experimental band out there on Division Mortality; what they do offer is a fun and enjoyable high-speed metal done well.

Division Mortality does away with the grandiose and gets down to brass tacks with "Ride With Death", a track that serves to highlight the quality of the production on the album, with the tight-sounding bass sitting in the centre of the mix while the guitars of Ratman and Papadopoulos layer atop it perfectly. The following two cuts manage to accelerate to an even higher level than that already hit with the opening track; furthermore, "Feeding The Carnivores" and "Sons Of Thunder" highlight the quality guitar work across the album, with strong riffs and solos aplenty. This is a common theme throughout the album, with both guitarists offering the highlights across the various cuts that make up the record.

Beer and Disco Destroyer (no really, these are the names of the vocalist and drummer, respectively) may not take themselves seriously with their names, but apply themselves when it comes to the music; Beer has a voice that perfectly suits the band's approach (even managing some Mustaine-like wow's on closing track "Beyond The Vortex"), while Disco Destroyer's drum work is energetic and challenges for the spotlight. "Blood Legacy" demonstrates the impact both have on the quality of the band's sound.

As mentioned earlier, some may find Division Mortality generic and offering little in the way of originality or progression, meaning your mileage may vary in terms of how much you get out of the album. While it does sometimes verge on being immature to a fault (the lyrics on "Iron Wisdom" are too cheesy), the quality of the music makes up for these shortcomings if you are wanting something easy, yet fun to enjoy.

Speedrush may not take themselves seriously, but they take their music seriously, with Division Mortality being an enjoyable run through speed-infused metal. While it offers little unique, you could do far worse if you want music to kick back and party to.
