A little preview for one of the most waited releases of the year, Finntroll is back, and better than ever, this Ep, entitled "Trolhammaren" is their second Ep in a row, after the acoustic experiment "Visor Om Slulet". This Ep also is the preview for their first full-length since 2001, and their first recording since founding member Somniun died in 2003.
This 5 track Ep, only shows that the band has matured and now is able to handle more complex melodies and elaborated rhythms, without loosing the heavy side of the music.
The album starts with "Trollhammaren" title track of the mini album, and the only song to be contained in their next full-length "Nattfödd", the song starts with some trademark Finntroll elements like the mouth harp and accordion, then the humppa sets in (humppa is a variation of polka, and is a typical Finnish dance).
"Hemkomst" is more fast paced and straight forward Blackish Metal, but always using the folk elements that make Finntroll so popular, "Skog" has a very funny rhythm the keyboards makes you feel like in the circus, a circus of Trolls of course, and "Försvinn Du Som Lyser" the shortest song in the Mcd has a frenzied melody accompanied but a excellent accordion, the break in the middle with the mouth harp is awesome!
To close the Ep, "Helvete" comes with playful keyboards and happy melodies, countered by the harsh vocals of Wilska, a great combo as always.
Finntroll are back, and they're here to stay that's sure, with this excellent Ep they prove once more why are on top of the charts when it comes to Folk Metal, just a glimpse of what we might found on their next upcoming album, don't miss either this or the upcoming.
