01. El Mundo Frio
Warning: Only for the patient and the sick.
After "Se Hace Por Los Suenos Asesinos" popped my Corrupted cherry I yearned for more. To my great satisfaction I quickly clasped my grubby hands on "El Mundo Frio", the fourth and to this very day final full-length of these Japanese sickos.
"El Mundo Frio" is in many ways similar, but superior to the previous full-length. Again there is their trademark contrast between zombiefying, stomping sludge with old school death metal growls and tranquil, beautiful pieces easing the soul, performed by an eerie whispering voice and either an acoustic guitar, a grand harp or an Irish harp (!). "Harps in my sludge?" "Well yes sir, and it works too!".
Still their biggest quality is not the use of instruments alien to metal, nor their smooth transitions between soft and heavy parts (though they do put Opeth to shame), but their extreme talent for thorough build-ups. These lads really have no idea what "to be in a hurry" means, and I love them for it. After the first feedback squeel disrupts the relaxed mood, you can easily expect to wait a few minutes before hell really breaks loose. And vica versa, the stomping vocals may have stopped for the moment, but the pummeling riffs are not as forgiving and will continue to thrash your face until you really need a fresh breath of air.
Corrupted show that they have not lost their talent to translate both heaven and hell into their music, each time resulting in very interesting albums. And in my opinion, they have done really outdone themselves this time. Sure, you might have to put a little effort into focusing on it the whole seventy minutes the first time, but after I became more familiar with it, I even found myself playing it twice in a row. Regarding it as simple background music is an insult to the creators of this unique album. Immerse yourself into the dreams of these visionaries. They will fry your brains.
