"Journey To The End Of The Night" is Green Carnation's debut album but you definitely would not notice that only by listening to it. The music and lyrics are mostly written by Green Carnation mastermind and guitarist Tchort who is also known for his work in early Emperor and later in Carpathian Forest.

This release is a very mature debut and you can see that all the musicians already had a lot of musical experiences before the making of this album. It is over 70 minutes long, but songs are very well constructed, so you never get a feeling that the album or some parts of the songs should be shorter. There are a lot of different styles featured on it, from Progressive, Gothic, Doom and even Folk Metal. Songs are mostly played in slow and mid-paced tempo which gives album a special dark atmosphere and, as the title already says, takes you to the night journey through the mysterious autumn landscapes. The performance of all the musicians featured on this album is great, especially from female and male vocalists who really stand out and also combine very well. Production could have been a bit better in my opinion, but it still is not bad and does not really have major influence on how the whole album sounds in the end. As I already said, all songs are really good, but two of them really stand out. These two are called "My Dark Reflections Of Life And Death" and "Under Eternal Stars", and are also some sort of peak of this release.

Even though Journey To The End Of The Night is not the best album from Green Carnation is certainly a great beginning to their career. It is a very unique album and it is very difficult to compare it with any other release. I would highly recommend it to any fan of Gothic, Doom or Progressive Metal. It is also great to listen to on cold autumn evenings.

This is pretty much an epic debut album. I guess many people would like this. About me, well, I do. Halfway. A part of it is really incredible, but sometimes it gets boring or unnecessarily long.
