Masturbation.

I knew you'd click on that. Let's be honest, we all do it, we all love it. But is it really different each time? Hell no, we all have our little habits and rituals. Sure, sometimes you surprise yourself with the occasional alternative movie choice, the sudden change of hand, or the new lotion from Durex, but that's about the fanciest you get. Stoner-influenced doom/sludge is about the same, repetitive yet pleasant: it's not the most exciting genre. If you're a fan of the style or already acquainted with In The Company Of Serpents, you'll understand with these lines that this new EP is nothing more than the new weekly output by your favourite pro-porn production studio. Hell, even reviews paralleling daily onanism to good old stoner releases must be common.

But hey, with that comparison in place, I still want to highlight the notion that Merging In Light is good enough to achieve satisfaction. Who doesn't love seeing a nice, oiled-up, round heavy-ass guitar and bass being repeatedly pounded by powerful drums. Those of you who have the privilege of being able to listen to this at high volume will be even more titillated with the soaring howls which just make you want to partake in the fun and moan a little yourself.

With just a little over the twenty minutes - that perfect duration that allows you to let things build up for a little while - Merging In Light is not short of the groove you're gonna need at some point or other. In The Company Of Serpents are even nice enough to give you a couple slow minutes after you climax, just so you can meditate on how good it was.

Go get your box of tissues.

Wait...did you just tell me to masturbate to this album? At any rate...interesting review. Definitely a nice take on saying that something is standard but good. I guess I'll listen to it and see if it's masturbation worthy

If my review incepts ideas, it is not my responsibility if they mature into actions, and if your parents catch you while you're choking your chicken to violent music Alex.

I liked the debut of these guys, from what I remember it had a considerably higher degree of melody and atmosphere than most sludge you come across these days, not up to par with the 30 min + vids of regular frequenting, but still fap material. I'm curious to see if this one retains that edge

Yeah it is still melodic, but I didn't find them really that memorable - the melodies. Very enjoyable though, I had no problem spinning it a good number of times. I do think they're going harder on it this time, compared to the début. More punch in the vocals too, and less buried. But basically it's still very similar.

Word, I'll get on it when I get the chance. Also, another good sludge album from this year, check out Trudger's debut if you haven't yet. Also along that "standard but good" style, sounds a lot like Remission-era Mastodon.

Damn thanks for the reminder, yeah. I listened to that one but never got back to it. That was the one that I had on my tongue but couldn't remember when I was discussing the trend with the bitter old twat ( ) I kinda see emerge right now. The early-Mastodon thing + coreish influences.
