And then, a new bunch of promos found the way down in my mailbox, this time some albums from Metal Blade and Lion Music, and I decide that it's best to get started at once.
So here, the first, of 6 new albums, to review we have Fragments of Unbecoming, a quite Brutal but still Melodic Death Metal band, close to the Gothenburg sound.
But when the intro was starting to sound from my speakers, and some acoustic guitars was playing some nice little intro song I was almost hoping that this wouldn't be a band in that genre, but as the first song start, it sounds exactly as I thought it would, melodic guitars, fast drums and growl vocals.
Now is it like this, I'm not fan of this kind of music, sure, I like it better then Black Metal and so, but still, I want much melody and Death Metal don't give to much melody, but anyway, I can find some joy in this kind of releases, if they, somehow, have some originality, and don't sound like ever other band in the same genre.
And Fragments of Unbecoming is better then I first thought they would be, but still this isn't my kind of music.
Fragments of Unbecoming was created as a side project in August 2000 by the Mortified guitarist Sascha Ehrich and the Venereal Disease guitarist Stefan Weimar, the last one also on vocals. A drummer was found really quick after, Ingo Maier, also from Venereal Disease.
A few months later, with a bunch of bassists tested they found the one they wanted in Wolle Schellenberg.
Sascha then quitted Mortifier and made Fragments of Unbecoming to his full-time band.
A year and a half after that the band was created they recorded their first MCD, "Bloodred Tales / Chapter I - The Crimson Season", it was released in May 2002.
A year after they signed a contract with Metal Blade and now, their first full-length album is ready to be released.
So what makes this album reach above the other Gothenburg inspired releases?
Well, actually I don't know for sure, because I haven't heard too much in this genre, and I guess that I won't do it either. But the thing that I think distinguish most is the guitars, I love guitars and the guitar work in this kind of Death Metal usually rock most of the genres away.
Even if Sascha and Stefan aren't the best guitar couple in the world they do a hell of a job here and they getting a plus from me for that.
So let's sum the record; If you want a album, filled with aggression, melodic, but still rough guitars, fast drums and growl voice, then Fragments of Unbecoming - "Skywards / Chapter II - A Sylphe's Ascension" is something for you.
And are you a fan of the Swedish Death Metal (Gothenburg Sound) this is for you as well.
Btw, I have done no wrong with the tracklist, I just wanted to share the little joke Fragments have done for us, to put song no.1 last in the list and then no.2 above, etc.
Favorite Songs: Well, hard one here, I'll say to you to check the whole album up, 'cause some favorite song I don't have.
