The first thing I thought when I received this Cd was, "what an ugly cover art", but as judgmental I am with cover arts, I also know that the inside is what matters, and by saying that, I mean that I have many Cd's with horrible cover art, but musically they're masterpieces.
Anyway, Emancer is hailing from Norway and is the brainchild of Mithrin, he does everything in this album, and only relegates the vocals to Gorbag. Now, what's does these guys offer us? Well, a pretty generic fast paced Black Metal, with some interesting elements here and there. Elements like electronics in some songs and some clear singing too.
If you want to have a pretty clear idea of how Emancer sounds, take Emperor and Dissection and mix 'em with some modern-day sounds, oh, and I almost forgot, some songs feature clean vocals done by guest appearance of Inge Heltne, who is this guy? Bits me. me.
Anyway, really wanted to like this album, but sadly, I didn't. Songs are too much alike, and I didn't find any new or fresh elements, and only one song really caught my attention "Dead.End" is a good sample of what this guys can do, if the album were filled with more songs like this, we would have a winner here! Also the initial electronic elements disappear at the second half of the album.
Emancer needs to polish their sound and add new ideas to the mix, you can't expect to make it in the business using ideas already done to death. This is not a bad album by any means, as a matter of fact, hardcore followers of the Norwegian Black Metal scene will find this a pretty good listen, but for me, the ugly cover and the lack of fresh elements were mayor drawbacks.
