Sorrowfield is a relatively new band from Germany, this is their second Demo, and the first one with their new singer, Marco Bianchi, who does a great work by the way.
Basically, Sorrowfield plays Gothic Metal in the vein of most of the Finnish bands, but with a little twist, it doesn't sound so Gothic, confusing? Let me explain it to you, is very easy to understand.
In the nineties a popular genre took control of radio waves and each teen in every nation was listening, I'm talking about the "Alternative" genre, or "Grunge" if you like, bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Soul Asylum took over, a second wave of Grunge bands appeared in the new millennium, like Creed and others I don't remember right now because I'm not a very big fan of the genre, specially the second wave.
Anyway, my point is that, that's exactly what I hear in Sorrowfield, good 'ol classic German (but Finnish) Gothic Metal, combined with a dose of Alternative music, the result? An accessible piece, sometimes I ask myself if this could be aired on Mtv, and the answer is, sure, why no.
I'm not saying that Sorrowfield are playing really soft mainstream kind of Metal, oh no, this is Gothic Metal for sure, but is sounds somewhat Grunge.
The 4 songs contained in this Demo have great hooks and catchy lines, my favorites are "Icy Waste Of Love", which is the heaviest of the Demo, and "Neon Rain" which features nice acoustic guitars.
I don't know if Sorrowfield planned this sound, but definitively is what I heard, but don't mind me and my worthless rants, this is a good demo, and I hope to hear these guys with a full-length someday.
