I don't know what it's with Finland and depressive music; I don't think anyone does, but it's a fact, Finland does the most depressive music and they do it good.
And that new bands coming from down under isn't that strange, since it's so popular to play this kind of music.
The Lust I Seek is one of those bands, the only difference is that they don't play Gothic (even is that was the thought from the beginning), no, it's Doom for these young fins.
The Lust I Seek was formed during summer (!) 2001 by Juha Wuorinen (Vocals) & Jussi Pekkala (Guitars), soon after followed drummer Tomi Valkealahti and two other members (that's not in the band today).
Bassist Antti Ojala joins after the other two left and during the time the first songs was created the search for a second guitarist and a keyboarder was started.
The old friend Kalle Suhonen heard the material and did a tryout, and the place as second guitarist was filled.
But a keyboarder is still missing (keys on this record is played by TooM from Global Illusion).
So during the last weeks of 2002 and the first of 2003, the first demo was recorded, mixed and mastered, and it's that demo this very review is going to be all about.
It's often that the first demo of a band is something they record just to see where exactly they stand, and to often the demo isn't that good.
But in this case, it's the reverse, this first demo is a very strong release, four songs with a playtime over 30 minutes, only that is an exploit, and that the materiel never gets boring is even better.
The songs are very well written and the guys can really handle their instruments, so I can't say much other than that I'm impressed, a lot.
The music is in a land somewhere between early My Dying Bride and a funeral, it's very guitar driven with some different ways of singing, all from clean to real growls from hell.
The lyrics is super, the word is really filled with emotions, so either has Wuorinen a real hell to life or else he is just a very good writer, I can't tell you which is right.
The production is good, quite low sounds but overall more than Ok.
To sum it up, if you're looking for a young band (every member is born between 83-86) that have more talent than many signed act out there, and that's playing in a league that old My Dying Bride did, stop looking, because you have them right before you.
I really think that if we give them a couple of years, we'll see that they are signed, I'm sure of it.
Favourite Songs: Hard not to chose all, but I'll say "Where Shadows Grow Silent" & The Silent Light".
