For all of you who don't know this band, they are a very melodic and emotional, traditional doom metal band with fresh new ideas. They are mainly inspired by the forefathers of this genre, such as Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Saint Vitus etc.
I must say that, finally, we hear something that sounds a little bit different in traditional doom, yes let's face it, originality is one thing that is lacking in most new traditional doom bands nowadays, but this is not true for Mirror of Deception and also not for their new release Foregone.
Foregone can be compared to a big pirate ship, the ship's destination is an island and it takes at least a week for the ship to reach that island. First days the weather is good and the sun is shining. After some days the weather starts to change. Storm, thunder and heavy raining are what the sailors are now struggling with. And then, when the storm is over, all that is left is the dark sky, cold weather and some cold-hearted sailors, depressed and hungry and without hope to reach the island anymore.
Another way to describe the sound of the album is; heavy riffs, melancholic vocals and sorrowful atmosphere. Compared to Mirrorsoil, this album is somehow more grieved and contains a dreamier sound. In my opinion it is not as unique as their first album, but it is still a very good album in its own style and should appeal to most traditional doom metal fans.
Song Highlights: Foregone Way, Bleak, Descended.
