Black Abyss, that sounds like a typical and boring Power Metal band or an unoriginal MeloDeath band, but don't fool your self, because this is really a surprise.
With a raw Heavy/Thrash/Power Metal, Black Abyss taking us to the place where Angels Wear Black, and I assure you, after this you'll wish that every Angel wore black.
Black Abyss is a very unknown band that hails from Southern Germany and they were founded back in 1990, but even if they have been here for a while, "Angels Wear Black" is just their third album since the self-financed debut in 1998 (Entitled "Why").
2001 they signed with the unknown label Bossy Ogress and released their second album, the excellent "Land of Darkness".
Evidently that album was good enough to draw attention from a major label (Massacre) for the release of their third album, "Angels Wear Black".
And as a Bonus, Black Abyss also joined Exciter and Steel Attack on a Winter Tour through Europe, so there's a chance to get to know Black Abyss better.
With this raw Heavy/Thrash/Power Metal, Black Abyss reminds me of quite many bands, so it's hard to point out some specific band, but you'll see that the music is feeling familiar without going over the edge. But it's also easy to hear that the band have a long road to walk before they will become a star, but they have potential.
"Angels Wear Black" contains 10 songs, with very changing material, everything from fast songs to Epic ones. But there are some that I must point out, and that is the ender and title-track "When Angels Wear Black", that's the Epic song, and clearly the best song on the album, fantastic one.
But songs like "Unholy War", "Shadows of the Past" (reminds me of HammerFall, in some strange way) and "Rebellion" is strong tracks too.
Overall is the album good, it's absolutely no killer, but it got potential to surprise many Metalheads out there, and Black Abyss also got the spirit to succeed, if they just keep up the good work, and I'm sure that we'll hear much greatness from them in the future, they have all the potential to succeed with that, good luck guys.
Check Out: "When Angels Wear Black", "Unholy War", "Shadows of the Past" & "Rebellion".
