A single job, of momentary success... And those who deserve to be known.
I found this band on a nu metal page, and honestly it is one of the few nu metal albums that I really enjoy listening to from start to finish; I would like to have their album in physical format, but it would be somewhat arduous work to obtain. Straight from Chicago, Illinois, No One were influenced by Korn and System Of A Down, and I hope I'm not wrong with this, but I also suspect Rage Against The Machine's influence formed the basis of their attitude.
Maybe their style sounds a little familiar to you, a bit generic, but I won't deny that Murk has a great voice, one that is versatile and rough. Of course, this is very characteristic of nu metal. But damn, what a wonderful album; I won't go into the names of the members since I wouldn't want to make a mistake in that regard, but they know what they are doing with their instruments. Overall, this is a nu metal album that in itself captures what nu metal is in the 2000s.
Some people will have only heard "Chemical" or "Down On Me" from this album, but they represent a small sample of the band's potential. At the beginning of the 2000s, with nu metal at its highest peak and so many bands with something to prove, often only one or two songs managed to gain much attention (and even those were the lucky ones with support from record companies - a necessary evil, without it no one would find their way in music); however, there is a lot more to enjoy on No One.
"Again" is somewhat melancholic and emotional, and one of my favorite songs on the album, just like the next "Cut"; damn the anger that's in those songs, the voice wants to make me crash my head against the wall. It is the magic of rebellion and anti-conformity. I would like to talk song by song, but it is better to listen to it on your own if you're interested; all the songs are good, but it only lasts for 44 minutes and 30 seconds, so getting the hang of the album makes you lose track of time and leaves you wanting more.
I don't consider myself the biggest fan of nu metal; in fact, I repudiated the genre. Still, it is said "it is never bad to try new things", and this particular experience was good. Music came into my life as a great happiness that I never tire of enjoying (maybe for me, the worst thing that can happen is to become deaf); so many bands have marked me, and I am still a young man who discovers more. I wrote this review with the album No One playing at full volume, focusing on my personal experience and feelings about the album rather than talking about more technical things. I hope this experience serves as a legacy for those who have heard the album, and invites those who read it to listen to this wonderful work, which needs to be known by more people.
