The Return Of The Son.

Curse The Son’s fifth album, Delirium, stays true to classic doom metal roots. The ‘trio’ sticks to familiar sounds, bringing back memories of late 80s and early 90s doom metal bands like Witchfinder General, Pentagram and the Ozzy Osbourne era of Black Sabbath.

Delirium explores feelings of desperation, isolation, and confusion. Curse The Son expresses these emotions through heavy, slow riffs that give the music a comforting yet dark feel. Their strong delivery has earned them respect in the US Southern doom metal scene. The album has a vintage feel that fits the genre.

Delirium starts with "This Suffering Is Ours", setting a heavy and moody tone right from the beginning with slow, sludgy riffs. Their cover of "R.I.P." by Witchfinder General is a tribute to classic doom, but they add their own style to the song. The title track, "Delirium", captures the madness and confusion of the album’s theme with fast tempos, crushing riffs, and strong vocals. The closing track, and my favorite track, "List Of The Dead", ties everything together with heavy riffs and a powerful finish.

Curse The Son also has a new drummer: Ron Vanacore’s 14-year-old son, Logan, who replaces Brian Harris. Logan fits right in and brings a fresh sound to the band’s music.

Delirium's cover art, designed by Douggy Pledger and Lee Reynolds, offers a vision of clowns in a distorted vision of reality, perfectly matching the album’s title. Recorded and mixed by Eric Lichter and Steve Wytas, the production is excellent, and the album sounds great.

After listening to Delirium, it’s clear that Curse The Son embrace their influences without holding back. Even though they use familiar elements, the band keeps its own identity without being lost in its influences.

Delirium is a solid, old school heavy doom record. The power trio sounds tight, and the lyrics are strong. While it doesn’t offer anything new, it’s still an enjoyable listen. If you’re not looking for something groundbreaking but just want a good time with a well-made doom record, Delirium is a great choice.
