A Forest Of Coffins.

Budowniczowie Grozy (Builders of Horror), the third album of Las Trumien (Forest Of Coffins), may be their best record so far, considering that their most popular release in Poland before this was Licząc Umarłych (Counting the Dead). Beyond their strong musicianship consisting of W.K (Vocals), BD (Guitars), W.Ś. (Drums), and RJM (Bass), what stands out most about this band is their dedication to singing in their native language. In a world where almost every metal band opts for English, this choice adds a unique value to their music.

Las Trumien, formed in 2020, quickly became a significant name in Polish metal after their debut self-titled EP made waves in the Polish metal scene with music inspired by dark, true crime stories.

Budowniczowie Grozy (Builders of Horror) opens with a horror-style intro that sets a spooky mood. The first track, “Pokaż Ząbki” (Show Your Teeth), kicks off with heavy riffs, slow rhythms, and eerie storytelling. Each track dives into tales of serial killers, with standouts like “Nienasycony” (The Insatiable One) and “Kandydat Numer Jeden” (Candidate Number One). While “Kandydat” (Candidate) may not be as strong musically, it still maintains the album’s dark vibe.

The album offers a good mix of songs that add variety. An acoustic ballad, “Długa Droga Do Piekła” (Long Road to Hell), showcases the vocalist’s range as he shifts from growls to clean singing. The faster-paced “Trupie Rozmówki” (Dead Talk) captures the high energy of their live shows. A couple of tracks, “Listonosz Puka” (The Postman Knocks) and “By Poczuć Się Lepiej” (To Feel Better), don’t hit as hard, but the final songs, “Kilka Godzin” (A Few Hours) and “Serca Samotne, Serca Nieszczęśliwe” (Lonely Hearts, Unhappy Hearts), close the album with an epic, doom-filled atmosphere.

Las Trumien stays true to their sludge and doom roots while also incorporating elements of black metal. The production on this album is very good, clean, and has a great mix in contrast to their past releases, giving it a grander feel without losing any of their sound.

Las Trumien stands as one of the most intriguing bands in the Polish metal scene. They delve into dark stories without glamorizing the violence, simply laying out chilling tales. Even if you don’t understand the lyrics, the music itself conveys that darkness, delivering a heavy, intense, and memorable experience.
