Metal is really big in Spain, even if we around doesn't notice that is mostly because most of the bands are singing in their mother tongue.
But we have some bands that dare to break the circle and sings in English, and among the largest we have established acts like Dark Moor and also Dreamaker.
And meantime those bands are harvesting success, the interest for other bands to also sing in English grows, and this review will be dedicated to one of those bands, named Innerself.

But when Dark Moor plods in the Power Metal swamp, Innerself has chosen another path, they're playing a very Groovy Heavy Metal with some Thrash-guitars, really interesting move, even if they have a long way to climb before they're fighting against Dark Moor about the fans.

Innerself was formed in 2001 through a name change, the band Leviathan (as the members band before was called) had been recording demos and played countless amount of shows, so they decided to start over and formed Innerself.
And this time they manage to climb higher, they signed with Locomotive Music and last year they released their debut, "Emotional Disorder". They supported their compatriots Mägo de Oz and Los Suaves and went on tour with Grave Digger. Talk about lucky change.

Anyway, "Emotional Disorder" is their first real release, and what can we, as metal/music consumers, expect of such unusual collection of songs?
Well, if you real the description in the beginning, you'll have a slight clue at least.
Otherwise it's pretty hard to describe the music Innerself is performing, not because it's very original or remarkable, but because it's difficult to describe in written words.
But Groovy Heavy/Thrash is pretty close, you'll get much of this groovy feeling, like in some older Doom bands, like Black Sabbath or alike, mixed with more Heavy Metal vocals and guitars, and the last are also a bit Thrashy, the kind school of Thrash.

Any closer than that I don't think I can get, the rest I'll leave to you to discover, because however you twist or turn is, Innerself is interesting. Their origin mixed with the music is pretty unusual, plus that the album is filled with more than competent material, makes them interesting. Also the production is great, but what to expect since it's mastered in the famous Finnvox by the almost equal famous Mika Jussila?

But the bad parts, or the part why it hasn't granted a higher score is because of the material too, it's good but not superb, and it's not very original. Sure maybe in Spain but not in the whole wide world, but other than that, I only have good things to say about Innerself, and I hope to hear much of them in the future as well.
So if you want a Groovy Metal band, give Innerself a chance, this might exactly be what you're looking for.

Check Out: "Desperate", "Man Used to be", "Deathmaster" & "Words Without Worth".
