Requiem for a genre
This is supposed to be a good album, or so I've heard of, so I'll give it a try on this cold morning. And what could go wrong? Usually things that have the word requiem are awesome (Requiem by Mozart, Requiem For A Dream by Aronofsky, to name some).
So we have here sophomore album of Hellfire, entitled "Requiem For My Bride", the band is playing Power Metal with a touch of King Diamond here and there.
Guitars sound sharp, production is good and the band has an aggressiveness factor that gives energy to the music. Vocals are ok I guess, nothing special, kinda reminded me of Kai Hansen at times. The overall package is somewhat appealing; the design of the Cd is really cool.
As you might guessed by now, there's not much to say about this release, a new release by a dying genre that tries to reinvent itself each day, but sadly fails. While Requiem For My Bride is not a bad album, is not that good either, as a matter of fact it tends to get really boring after a couple of spins, same riffs, same arrangements and same vocals.
Newbies on Power Metal will like this, old dogs like me that put aside Power Metal a while ago, try before buying, is a good album, not a milestone in Metal history.
