Deceiver was formed in January 2004 and the band chose to play a classic "old school" Metal, a mix between the Heavy of some bands like Motorhead and the Thrash of bands like Venom. The result is a first album, "Riding With The Reaper", an interesting album for all the fans of the Metal of the 80's.
"Riding With The Reaper" is not a revolutionary album because the band actually uses the recipe of the old Metal bands that was the stars of the 80's. However you all know like me that this recipe always work, you see what I mean, a band who knows how to use the classic Thrashy riffs with the anger that we got in the 80's cannot be a bad band. Evidently this band must be a good one but that's the case of Deceiver, then no worries?
"Riding With The Reaper" actually only suffers of it lack of originality, I mean that we heard all that before, that's not new but on the other side that's well done and it's always good to have this kind of flashback. The album sound good with a lot of riffs that are really near of Thrash but on the other side it can actually sounds a bit Heavy in the spirit of a Motorhead, you know with this Rock N Roll touch. That's pleasant yes and it's good listen to such music sometime. But as I said before, don't really expect anything new, we can find such music on a lot of albums.
This album is honest but that's not a revolution, however, the fans of the style will probably enjoy the music of Deceiver especially if you're an fan of the old school Metal period. You just know what you'll have to do, "Riding With The Reaper" is for the nostalgic fans of the music and all the other are welcome to have a look on this album if they want to discover a cool band made by some diehard fans of the 80's.
