Fear Thy Demo

Fear Thy Name hails from Portugal and this is their second demo Cd, being "The Awakening" their first one. I hold the demo in my hands, and the first thing I can tell is the good presentation this has, the artwork and general layout is quite professional, although the Cd doesn't has a booklet nor a jacket. The sound is quite good considering this is a Demo.

Other thing that surprises me is the long duration of the songs, pretty unusual on the Death Metal field, usually they come, punch you and go, but Fear Thy name is different, the song take their time to develop fully, although the song doesn't have much radical changes, they manage to keep the listener interested in the music, but in a very personal opinion, I think that the songs could have been a little shorter.

This is not your typical blast 'em Death Metal, is more moody and mid-paced, the keyboards add a lot to the sound actually, and all the song have catchy passages, and great guitar work, although no song really stands up from the rest. The three songs are good songs, but not great songs, maybe they should try to focus on shorter songs with the same quantity of ideas, that might turn up productive.

The band obviously are not joking, they want a record contract and you can tell because there's obviously an effort to deliver a quality product here, and they succeed in such endeavour, although the music leaves me somewhat unsatisfied. I hope to hear a more refined sound from these guys, best of lucks!
