Romantic music for the masses

This has to be the world's kitschiest Cd cover, or at least this year's! Anyway, I totally love it, the whole design of the Cd and booklet is quite good, and it goes perfect with the mood of the music. Yeah, you guessed right, Gothic stuff, call it what you want "Pussy Metal", "Heartbroken Metal" or "Girlie Metal" it all comes down to this: love songs for the broken-hearted.

This genre was made popular by the whole Finland Gothic scene, so is good to see bands emerging from other countries other than Suomi. My Sixth Shadow are a pack of Italians sweating androgyny all over their leather vests and eye make-up.

The album focus on catchy melodies and easy arrangements, the whole sound could be catalogued as Rock rather than Metal but they move in Metal circles so let's keep 'em that way. Most of the songs could be easily be on any radio or Mtv, this is the kind of "light" music that many people dig these days, songs like "Useless", "So Far" and the ultra-catchy "Hate Loving Heart" will be the delight of the masses. A interesting rendition of U2's "With Or Without You" is also included in the Cd as closer track.

Ok, here's the deal, you know what this is about, is not the most complex music, neither is that original, is catchy, is cool, and if you happen to be broken-hearted at the moment, this will suit you just fine. I see many reasons for people liking this Cd, also I see many reasons to hate it, so if you like the whole Gothic scene (bands like Charon, HIM, Entwine, etc) get this, if you're looking for something a little less whiny and more aggressive, check out the latest Grindcore releases at your nearest Cd store.
