There have been many reviews of Australian bands lately, that's a proof that the land down-under is really growing as a Metal country, and personally I don't complain, the more Metal we get, the better, that's my motto.
Today's "harvest" is the young and fresh Black Majesty that's releasing just their second album, a successor to the debut "Sands of Time" that's one of Limb Music's best selling albums, ever.
How can they ever repeat that, you might wonder. Well, to be totally honest with you, I wonder precisely the same thing.
Unfortunately I never heard the debut (never expected that, did you?) so I can't really say how good, bad or equal this disc is towards "The Sands of Time", so I'll just go with my impressions only from "Silent Company".
And I have to say that my first impression isn't good, and that's usually a bad omen.
But I don't want to be prejudice either, so I'll give the album a few additional spins before reviewing it.
After six or seven spins I can't say that the album has grown on me, and that's strange since I'm such a sucker for Power Metal, or all it's kinds.
But this album is, demonstrably, missing something to catch my attention. I mean, the album is well played, the singer is good, the material is ok, production out of complains, but still, something is missing.
The album brings us nine new songs, neither of them slower than mid-tempo, which will probably be liked by all ballad-haters out there.
But the songs aren't either bringing anything new to the scene, as usual in this genre. And as I said, the material is good, but there's missing one of these songs that you won't forget, in other words, a real killer is missing.
The material is very even and it's only the Jon English cover "Six Ribbons" I'll mention as a song better than the others. This piece is actually very interesting, and it's for sure the only think I'll remember from this record.
So, if you were one of all those that bought "The Sands of Time" and liked it, I guess you could like this as well, since it's the same bad. But I seriously hope that this album it's just the sounding proof that it's extremely hard to follow-up a successful album.
Black Majesty is young, they'll have all the time they need to create great albums, but "Silent Company" won't go down in history as one of their best, I'm sure of that.
Check Out: "Six Ribbons".
