Headbanging ahead
What can you expect from a band that is called Spellbound and has George W. Bush on their front cover? (and apparently the former pope and Osama Bin Laden)
Well, being a fanatic of all things anti-Bush myself, I would think this as a protest, politically charged Cd, and if my Metal knowledge is right, the genre that has more politically-driven acts is Thrash Metal, so let's se if this falls under this category.
I put the Cd on my player, and after a short intro, WHAM! I'm blown away by the potent title song "Incoming Destiny" a relentless Thrash attack with a lot of reminiscent elements from the bay area scene and some from the German school.
If I could mention some bands that come to mind while listening Spellbound, I would say first of all Kreator, Exodus and in a minor extent, Slayer.
Vocalist/bassist Lennart Vocke has a particular singing style, his vocals have a raspy, gruff tone and you can hear him screaming, reaching some notes, and even doing a mild shriek if you hear really well.
The album is purely riff-based, although I could have used more guitar solos, the riffs served their purpose: headbang. This is a prefect album to headbang along, songs are energetic and filled with aggression, you don't get this quality in Thrash Metal nowadays.
Fans of Thrash Metal (specially the old-school one) will be rejoiced with this album, I'm pretty sure of this, "Incoming Destiny" will be the delight of many headbangers out there, so prepare your necks and start banging those heads! Spellbound has arrived!
