"Perception Of Fear" is the first album of Sencirow, a German combo and one of the last signatures of the label AFM Records. And I'm sure that you guessed well, like a lot of young bands nowadays, they play Power Metal. Sencirow is not a bad band but it's not so easy now to find a place in the Power Metal scene in reason of a big saturation and their lack of originality won't pay a lot unfortunately.
On the back of the Promo CD we can read that Nico McBrain after that he had a look on the album said something like "cool, guys". Yes he is right, "Perception Of Fear" is cool but nothing more and it suffers of a real lack of originality. Actually, if it was possible to have a break with all those new Power Metal bands this album could be a good release but right now only the ones who are addicted by the stile will find a real interest with this band.
But let's be honest if it's not really original this is not the worst album of Power that I had to listen to lately. First, the singer doesn't have a high-pitched voice and his "thrashy" vocals aren't bad at all. Secondly it's not so fast, they know how to change the rhythm of their songs and at the end it's a bit different than the majority of the newcomers in the Power Metal scene. Though as you can see there are some good points and the band, if they know how to put some more personality in their compositions, will probably release some better releases in the future. But really they will have to find a miracle recipe is they want to survive because right now it will be hard in my opinion.
So as you can see we're in front of an average album of Power Metal but not a bad one. The guys have a good potential and there are some good promising things on this "Perception Of Fear" and we will probably have some good things in the future but however this album is not a must. Try it first and you'll see?
