Glenn Tipton, John Entwistle and Cozy Powell?damn what an incredible line up? It's really surprising to see such band but you're not dreaming, Mr Tipton knew how to convince these fantastic musicians to play with him on "Edge OF The World". An album that was recorded in 1996 but strangely never released by the label. Do you know why? Well actually the label found that it sounded too "old" and wanted some younger musicians? this is sad but on a side a bit right?
"Edge OF The World" is not un unpleasant album and it's evidently great to have the luck to listen to the deceased John Entwistle and Cozy Powell in addition of Glenn Tipton. First because they both were amazing musicians, real legends, but also because I really think that it was just right to release this album? for their memory. On the other hand it seems that they both had a lot of influences on the music and the thing is that this album is really peaceful, soft and at the end we're really near of Rock or even Pop. Don't read that it is bad, some songs like "Resolution" or "Give Blood" are some cool pieces of (cool) Hard Rock but the majority of the songs clearly have a big 80's music influence and if I'm sure that it's good in the style, for me it sounds too old and it's a bit hard to enjoy the music.
Evidently, if you're fan of old school Rock, its will be for you, same if you want to do a real come back in past, but if you're looking for something which sounds modern, it will be hard to be addicted. On the other hand you all have to remember that we're in front of a real original album which deserves at least a try for its originality and above all, for its line up.
If you like Glenn Tipton compositions and believe that you can manage Pop music influences, I don't think that you'll have a lot of problems with this release, on the other hand if you want something really catchy, Heavy, and Powerful, you can go away? Sad but true, I think that the label was right in time, but "Edge OF The World" deserved to be released. I'm not a fan of the album, but I'm sure that some of you will like it?
