If you know the French Metal scene you probably heard one day some words about Garwall. You must actually know that Balrog is the result of the departure of two members of the band, Olivia (ex No Return) and Balrog (singer and guitarist). Their second album, "Bestial Satanic Terror" is a real anthem to the violence and all the ones who like aggressive Black Metal mixed with terrific ambiances will have to check this new release.

For me, there are good and bad points on this release. The good ones come from the excellent riffs and melodies. There are a lot of excellent ambiances a la Emperor on this album and if you like (or not actually) Black Metal I'm ready to bet some money that you'll be attracted by those melodies. I don't really know how to explain it but some breaks, some passages are just hypnotic and it's a pleasure to listen to it again and again. The songs are powerful and extremely violent on a side but Balrog knew how to write songs that have this little touches synonym of good production?.

On the other hand, the drums lines are a bit linear sometime and the general really high tempo can become a bit boring at the end. Of course it's Black Metal so we already know how the rhythm can be but still it can be a bit linear yes. This is a bit problematic because sometime we can even have the feeling that we're listening to the same songs from the first to the last track of the CD. If we didn't get those good ambiances and little breaks "Bestial Satanic Terror" could be a boring album. But the musicians knew how to do some good musical arrangements that give a positive point to the music.

"Bestial Satanic Terror" is a good release of Black Metal. Not the most original one but there are lot of good things on the CD so I'm sure that the fans will like it. At least with their last album Balrog confirms that we still know how to do good Metal in France?
