Great start, let's see how it develops
Lunarsea is a band that I was unfamiliar with until I received their debut album, courtesy of Burning Star Records. I can't avoid to remark the amazing cover art of the album, done by Spina Studios. Phew, well that's it for the "thank you" notes of this review, let's move on to what really matters, the music.
Take a band like In Flames, mix it up with some Children of Bodom, put more melodic leads into it and less noise, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what Lunarsea are doing here. And again, this might not be the most original piece of music that I ever heard but at least these guys do their job quite good.
The album sounds really good, the production is quite tight and you can hear clearly each instrument, the vocals have the perfect amount of notoriety, neither buried in the back, nor up front in your face, and while we're at it, I must say that the vocal department did a wonderful job in the record, both harsh and clean vocals sound really good.
The album has some highlights, like the eclectic "Evolution Plan.Txt", the versatile "Dead End Road, He Walked" and my personal favorite, the instrumental "Onirica Frequencies". Some other songs have memorable moments like the instrumental section in "And The Gardens Of Jades Remained Void".
This was a pleasant experience, I must say, although not completely fulfilling. Lunarsea have a long way to climb if they want to achieve success, but needless to say they had a right start with this album, I just hope their next album will be more inventive.
