Sweden is known for offering melodies and softness in their metal scene (they even invented the Gothenburg sound remember?), so if someone tells me "hey man I found a really sick band from Sweden" I'd say "yeah I've heard about Nasum already (R.I.P)". But this time I am not talking about them; so pay attention to what I'm about to say because you're about to be familiar with one of the most promising bands I've heard from Sweden. The fairly new act called Splitter

When I received this MCD I had my doubts and I didn't know what to expect as the cover was more serene than violent; it wasn't until I pushed play in my stereo when I realized the greatness of what I was holding in my hands. Splitter has released only a demo, an EP and this Mini CD, and they already have better quality than most grind acts nowadays. Yes, they are not the first band ever to make my ears bleed and they are obviously not flawless, but that's exactly what I love the most of this band, they have a lot of potential in their music, and I'm sure they'll finally evolve to become one of the most interesting bands in Grindcore history.

The music is violent as a bum fight and the execution is surprisingly tight; the songwriting becomes technical at times while the structures add irregularity towards the music. Splitter also managed to be really versatile in their songwriting, you'll be hearing a really catchy tune like "Välfärd/Likfärd" before the complexity of "Tidsinställd Kollaps[i] strikes your brain to finally close with [i] "Situation Stockholm. Kapitel2" one of the most hostile tracks in this album.

This MCD features a demo called "Studend Chockerande Intryck" which shows a less polished band with half-decent music and awful production; while I was hearing this demo I thought "damn, if this guys progressed their music this much, I can't wait to see what they'll do next". The demo segment is good to know the band a little more, but it has little replay value (mainly due to the raw mix); personally I prefer to hear the first eleven tracks over and over again instead of the demo, but that's just me talking.

Overall this MCD is totally worthwhile. The layout is good, it has an English explanation of each track and I guess that's it as the lyrics are all in Swedish. This band will blast everyone who's into Grindcore, and I bet most of the avant-gardist out there digging bands like Antigama or Wojczech will find something good about Splitter, I really can't wait to hear their first Full-length.

Best Tracks: "Välfärd/Likfärd", "En Plats För Alla", "Status"
