I don't know that many Death Metal bands from Russia, so when I received this album I couldn't help to be a little excited and even thrilled for I was about to hear a band from a truly far away country (from where I'm standing that is). Sadly I wasn't at all impressed and on the contrary, I ended up feeling disappointed with this record, let me analyze things a little more.

Deathonator created a melodious kind of Death Metal which it is not in the vein of regular Melodeath or any of the ramifications of the aforementioned genre. This style lines towards Heavy-Metal actually, and it's indeed very odd to hear a Judas Priest influenced band that tries to sound like Carcariass or Amon Amarth. This is a battle between Heavy Metal riffs, Death Metal vocals (with a bad tone), weak drumming and Melodic structures, all wanting to outstand one another finally creating a bizarrely crafted kind of metal that's almost undecipherable and bland.

The band has some good ideas for sure, the music sounds really catchy at times and the execution is quite decent, but then the songwriting kills the execution and the awful vocals destroy what was left of respectable music. My recommendation to the band would be first to change the vocalist, next to decide which influences they will follow (it's bizarre enough to see a Death band covering a Kiss song) then to organize the songwriting to finally decide which genre they will play.

I'll be reviewing more bands from this country very soon; I just hope they rebuild an impression in me, seriously.
