Nostalgic about 80s Thrash Metal? Reanimator is there to relieve you. This very young band from the Montreal suburbs displays a controlled old-school Thrash a la Exodus on their debut EP Thrashin' the Neighborhood released through Galy Records. Already making a name locally, Reanimator can only grow. Here is why.

While showcasing simple song structures, Reanimator knows how to create riveting tunes and great abilities. From Exodus and Kreator to Municipal Waste, the influences are defining the band as a serious player in the Thrash scene. As previously state, this band is very young (average age of 19), and while the lack of maturity is not obvious musically, I believe they can grow to something bigger than a Thrash-icons-sound-alike combo. Not that this album is unoriginal, but I hear a potential to create something wider and more aggressive. This is their debut EP, so it's quite a testimony of these guys' skills already.

The catchy tunes and the killer guitar work on the record are sure to form a fan base for Reanimator. They are definitely tapping into the olden sound, at times sounding very close to Megadeth or to Pantera. While their sound is nothing groundbreaking, it is still original to bring back this old sound in a 2007 release, and quite refreshing. The raw production gives Thrashin' the Neighborhood somewhat of an old-school feel as well.

Thrashin' the Neighborhood is an interesting return of the old Thrash sound from the 1980s. With catchy songs and a tremendous amount of energy, Reanimator debut EP is a window into the future of an already promising band.
