01. Wisdom Of The Dead
02. Canadian Metal
03. Hedninger Fra Helvete
04. Bad Attitude [Testors cover]

If you like Darkthrone and still believe that the band plays a kind of true Black Metal I'm sorry to say that to you that but you will probably be disappointed by their upcoming album. I have in my hand the mini CD "NWOBHM" which will be released a month before the release date of the new album "FOAD" and I can tell you that Darkthrone follows the way of their last effort "The Cult Is Alive". If you cannot stand Punk, then just go away?

Of course the new Darkthrone won't be an album of Punk, but the band always claimed to take their influences from this musical movement and right now I can tell you that it's easy to hear it. The four songs of "NWOBHM" are simple on a side but all have a classy "punk attitude". I mean that even if the riffs are simple it's easy to hear that the songs have a real spirit and that musically speaking it's maybe not complex but at least it gives a lot of feelings to the listener.

"Wisdom Of The Dead" and "Canadian Metal" will be featured on the new album, those two songs are simple (technically speaking, a la old school if you want) Black Metal songs and if you liked the previous album I think that you'll like them. The two other songs won't be featured on the album and even if "Hedninger Fra Helvete sounds like the two first songs, it suffers of an average (that's strange?) production. On the other hand, "Bad Attitude" (a cover of a UK Punk band, The Testors) is a cool punk song which will please all the ones who like this kind of music.

What can I add, well, if you're not looking for a real album of Black Metal, "FOAD" is, in my opinion a promising album. Though, "NWOBHM" is a cool single but this is nothing essential too. Wait a bit and be patient and you'll be able to discover if you'll like the new Darkthrone or not. Be sure of one thing, the ones who like "The Cult Is Alive" will not be disappointed.

Well, I don't actually see the contradiction between the obvious punk influence and being still "true" black metal... actually all the classic Norwegian BM bands sound pretty punkish, maybe with the exception of Burzum...

methinks this is an awesome release, Darkthrone changed compeltly their style and even so, they retain all the "blackness" of their previous releases in each song...

New Wave Of Black Heavy Metal, a reference to New Wave Of Brittish Heavy Metal, a genre which Fenriz likes a lot
