Kerion is a new band which uses to play Symphonic Power Metal a la Rhapsody and maybe Nightwish. If this music was really trendy one or two years ago, this is a bit more "original" to listen to such new releases now, and that's a good thing. "Holy Creature Quest" is the first release of this young French band, this is not perfect but promising and I'm sure that the fans of the genre will enjoy a lot this album.

Musically speaking, "Holy Creature Quest" is really well interpreted and when I listen to the guitars soli and epic arrangements of the album I can tell you that Kerion doesn't suffer of any comparisons with the famous bands of the genre. Kerion plays classic Symphonic and Epic Power Metal which can be compared to bands like Rhapsody or maybe to the old Nightwish for some aspects. This is really mediaeval in the spirit and all the songs are epic and really catchy if, of course, you like to listen to Power Metal. Even if the album is technical I have to admit that the music of Kerion is really cliché and I think that the band will have to work on this point for their next releases. "Holy Creature Quest" is not bad at all in the genre, at the opposite this is a good release of Power Metal but seriously, the band will have to find its own personality and try to avoid the big "flower Power" clichés on their future releases.

The big problem for me with this album is that it never avoids all the clichés of the genre. Of course if you like to listen to Symphonic Power Metal it should be ok but if you're not into this kind of music, I'm afraid that you'll hate this release. Plus, the voice of Flora is not terrible but this is a bit average and she will have to work on her vocals if she really wants to become a bit more convincing. Right now, she is not false or anything but her voice is really classic and monotonous in the end. Finally the production of the release is a bit average too, but here I hope that the band will have some better means of production in the future. With a real big production (the ones that you can find in Germany or Sweden) I'm sure that "Holy Creature Quest" could be a better album.

"Holy Creature Quest" is a good album of Symphonic Power Metal. Some things will have to be fixed in the future but for a beginning this is not a bad start. If the band manages to find a bit more of personality and originality, I'm sure that some people will start to talk about them. Let's see what will happen in the future but no doubt that Kerion is a promising band. "Holy Creature Quest" is recommended if you need your monthly dose of Epic Metal!

One of the better unknown symphonic power metallers, alongside Legenda Aurea.
