In our brutal Metal world, some beautiful and peaceful music is always like a fountain of youth. "Musique du Crépuscule", the first album of Les Fragments de la Nuit, a strings quintet from France, is in this category and when you use to listen to everyday all the "new" Metal albums it's really refreshing to discover such releases. Sure, this is not something for every metalheads but if you're a bit open minded and like to listen to dark classical music and even folk things; I think that this release will maybe be for you.
"Musique du Crépuscule" is like a lovely journey into the world of the night. The songs are all about the moon and about fairies, during the whole album you'll be able to listen to songs which will talk about the dusk, about these fairies (their lives etc), about the night and day-break. When you know that this album is an instrumental release (we only have a few vocals there and there), it's a bit weird maybe to say that but believe me, the compositions are really well done and you just have to read their titles (in French unfortunately for the non-French speakers) to understand the music and live, what the musicians want to show. As you can understand, "Musique du Crépuscule" is a peaceful album, the songs are in general melancholic but even if it's dark in general, it can happen sometime that the music of these five strings instruments give some kind of happiness. "Musique du Crépuscule" is a bit like a movie sound-track but if you like to listen to ambient music, if you like classical music and dark music played by violins, piano and cello, I'm sure that you'll enjoy the release. All in all I think that people who like to listen to true Gothic music should love the album which is full of melancholic poesy.
Marc Villar and Ombeline Chardes, the leaders of the combo are great writers and you'll not be surprised to hear that Les Fragments de la Nuit is also a specialist of movie musical compositions. Obviously, their first album is extremely professional and you'll understand when you'll listen to the album for the first time, why I say that we're reaching here the top level of the "emotional music". Nothing to say about the interpretations or recording, this release is perfect in the genre.
Les Fragments de la Nuit is a lovely discovery. Their first album is a beautiful journey in the kingdom of night and if you like to listen to music which gives emotions I'm sure that you'll like the release. Sure of course this is not something that you'll play on your stereo to sing-along during the tracks but if you want to pass a peaceful and refreshing moment, this is a must. "Musique du Crépuscule" is a beautiful album of neo-classical music, a must for the ones who like dramatic tunes and delightful acoustic melodies.
