Disfigured Dead's Visions Of Death could very well have been released in in the first half of the eighties. It contains ass-kicking (proto) Death which was played in the the days before Death metal became overproduced soulless shit. Yes, this is a little under produced and yes, it sounds a lot better that way. And yes, there's a pretty strong Thrash factor to their sound.

Visions Of Death is their debut, or at least I think so. I know virtually nothing of this band. And frankly, I don't really need to know more because with Visions Of Death plaguing my brain I've got enough on my mind as it is. So we've got some thrashy proto Death metal on our hands, which means we've got some headbanging to do. Well, the abundance of good riffs infused with occasional lyric magic that puts Shakespeare to shame aids the headbanging greatly. We're talking gems such as "You little whore!" or "Fuck you bitch!" here. Awesome. Getting back on the production, you couldn't tell the difference between this record and a real eighties record if you'd try. I believe that tells you pretty much all you need to know.

Unfortunately, not all of Disfigured Dead's riffs are equally tempting. Occasionally the feeling creeps upon the listener that not everything that's old is good. Usually this is to blame on sub-par songwriting as the tracks sometimes lack depth and organic flow. But, luckily, most of this stuff still is old-fashioned good fun and if you often find yourself reminiscing the early eighties, go for it brother. Welcome To The Morgue!
