So, what the hell is it I'm talking about then? Well, good stoner metal makes a person feel stoned despite being sober, and supposedly good suicidal black metal has the capability of making the most well balanced individual reconsider life, and keeping it - right? Vilipend play a type of punk/hardcore, experimental hybrid, with total disregard of that little thing called "finesse". If nothing else, Plague Bearer is a respectable little piece of music because of the way it continues to push the boundaries of hardcore music without pissing all over what it was originally supposed to be. No tough guy, macho douche bag yelling. Instead it's an insane mish-mash of sloppy sounding punk, and some pounding doom thrown in. Mish-mash is a great word to describe this EP, at times the music is chaotically incoherent, yet always manages to swing back into some listenable experimental noise.
This also appears to be to be a recording targeted at already existent fans. In a 3 song EP, there really isn't a lot of room for dicking around with long intros and more spacey moments. There's a little too much beating around the bush on this one to offer much of an in-depth look at the bands capabilities.
Plague Bearer is completely devoid of any subtleties or finer moments, you're either into this type of chaos or you're not, there's really no middle ground on this one.
