Smallest town I've ever lived in had 120k inhabitants and it felt completely stale. Like nothing going on, ever. Couldn't handle it.

Thunder Bay is 120,000 people, but very isolated outside of that. 8 hours in any direction to the nearest other Canadian city. The cheap cost of living is great here so I'm able to travel etc. I would love to live in Montreal...
