The morphine child is a real masterpiece. 10 minutes of pure epic stuff.

Yeah, too bad rest of the album is not on the same level, even though "Comissar" and "Back to Reason" get close.
I often call it the Bohemian Rhapsody of Metal :p I know many won't agree, but that's what i feel.

Another year and another listen. It's still rather good an album, but I find it's rather easy to use occasional skip while listening to it. Good songs still remaining good

The comparison is certainly justified as both of those songs are epitomes of great song writing. Personally I can hear some of the same greatness in the title track of 'The Wake Of Magellan', but not to same extent.
Savatage is a band that seems, for the most part, only get better by the years. This album is no exception. This is a album that feels like a middle child between the earlier and the later years Savatage. It's heavy, raw while also progressive and theatrical. I think most people can agree that Morphine Child it's the big winner here and also one of the best tracks in their discography, it's an immersive song with many twists and turns. But in my opinion every song here is worthwhile and shows off Savatage at their best.
They finished their career on top.

I dont agree that they finished their career on top, absolutely not.
Morphine Child is incredible, it is among the band's all-time top three songs for me.
As for the rest of this album: Not much to find for me here.

Oh well we all got our own opinions I find this to be as good as any Savatage album. I never skip any tracks when listening to it. Surrender, Back to a Reason are example of songs I find absolutely wonderful.
One thing I really think was a miss is Damond Jiniya never got to sing on any studio album, he would have been a great addition on this one based on the live bootlegs from this era.
