Let us revisit the year of 1986 for a moment, because this year was probably THE biggest year in the history of Thrash Metal. Three of the biggest acts in Thrash metal released what would become their most impressive works to date. That being Metallica's 'Master Of Puppets', Slayer's 'Reign In Blood' and Megadeth's 'Peace Sells...', Three massive albums that raised the bar in Thrash Metal beyond comprehension. The only difference however, is that Megadeth still had much more to offer after this release, which is why they continue to be a favourite of mine.

"I sneak in my own house, it's four in the morning, I've had too much to drink, said I was out with the boys. I creep in my bedroom, I slip into bed, I know if I wake her I'll wake up....dead."

We all know what happens from there. Poland kicks off with an awesome fucking solo, and your brain dies from the lethal injection of metal you've just shot into your bloodstream. "Peace Sells" is the album that put Megadeth on the map. Mankind is and always will be at war with itself, much like the riffage of each instrument will be in constant competition with each other on this album. Yet ideas of peace still sell in this world. Let me ask you this, then; are you buying?

A lot of riffs seem like seperated on their own don't really blend well in the whole songs !

One of my Top 10 All-Time Overrated Metal Albums

I think most old-school thrash is a pile of rubbish, and even I find that statement amusing. This album deserves all the overrating it gets.

The title track is a little cringe-worthy but other than that this is a pretty solid thrash release. If Megadeth released more albums like this and Ruse in Peace, I'd probably even consider myself a fan.

One of the most over-rated of the classics. Killing Is My Business... may not have the sound but it had superior material. No song delivers as much as "Devil's Island".

This album fully clicked with me on New Year's Eve. In terms of song-writting and specially metal virtuosity it's one of the best thrash albums ever. Metallica were writting longer songs at this point, being more epic, but Hetfield or Kirk couldn't have come up with such exquisite riffs and catchy riffs. I still find the production somewhat clunky and the song not quite "epic", so Rust in Peace is still my favourite, but still, really awesome album from a musical staindpoint. And catchy as fuck, I don't think metal "purists" realise just how catchy good thrash and early death-metal actually was, which kinda explain why current thrash generation no longer write memorable stuff. You could translate this album in another genre and it would still be great if done wright.

Less speed more thrash than debut. Well, I miss the debut's sound, this isn't a bad album either, but I feel like it's missing something; maybe a couple of more faster tracks would fix it to as good as Killem All & Ride the Lightning. Classic stuff anyhow.

This album (I refuse to mention the latter name of the album) and K-ing is my Business are Megadeth's worst albums and worst lineup. Wake Up D is a disturbing song. The Conjuring, D's Island, Good M / Black Friday, Bad O, and I Ain't Superstitious are satanic songs. Good M is also violent and could make people go insane, along with My Last Words. Their title track is also bad. Everybody is buying peace. That song is just shit!

Great album, somewhat overrated, I don't like the tracks as much as the debut but it's still a landmark album and it has some absolutely great moments, my favorite track being "good mourning / black friday"

A great record, but the first half is much stronger than the second. Their second best after Rust in Peace IMO.

A genre classic without a doubt, every song here kills. It's amazing to think that even back in the '86 young Mega-Dave had this whole thing figured out already. Been studying Chris Poland's amazing work lately, and I must say the man has been completely overshadowed by Marty Friedman. Both are world class players, but Chris never made anything that interesting outside Megadeth.

My first copy of this masterpiece was the infamous remaster from the 2000's I got for few bucks. It sucked ass and I hated it. The original is the way to go.

This album is fun and addicting - even "Superstitious" can be catchy. The highlights for me are The Conjuring, Good Mourning / Black Friday, Bad Omen, and My Last Words.
The Conjuring and Bad Omen are some great dark songs with awesome riffs. Bad Omen is especially underrated - that intro is amazing (it sounds sometimes like the guitar is laughing evilly)!
GM/BF was an incredible idea to have this beautiful melodic instrumental intro transform into one of the fastest and most graphic thrash songs ever!
And My Last Words is just a pure masterpiece in songwriting: the melodic intro (that bass playing is godly), the fantastic Dave guitar solo, and of course the lyrics - the lyrics are the greatest lyrics of any Megadeth song! They flow so well and the wordplay is clever and fascinating - and you can really feel the anxiety yet thrilling experience of Russian Roulette as the song gets faster and faster! " Does anybody play? Anybody?"

I find their best albums (by far) are Rust in Peace and Peace Sells. Other than those two, it's hard to find a consistently good album. They have great songs sprinkled throughout their discography, but no albums that are masterpieces as a whole imo. I recommend their "Greatest Hits" compilation album for a collection of their best songs outside of the two "Peace" albums

I know I'm replying to a very old post but WTF!!! It's a classic. Each to their own.

The only track I don't like is the Howlin Wolf cover. Dave had a horrible habit of ruining his albums with shit cover versions.

The first three songs are the most amazing part of the album. How did Dave come up with those riffs? It's hard to imagine how those notes were composed magically by such a genius. Excellent works.

The first three songs are the most amazing part of the album.

The rest of the album is just as much a masterpiece
That epic intro of Devil's Island; the contrast in Good Mourning/Black Friday between melodic and super fast thrash; the overlooked and very catchy Bad Omen; the silly yet fun I Ain't Superstitious; and finally the lyrical genius of My Last Words with the divine bass-playing and the epic solo to finish it off!
Timeless classic for me

I give this the edge over Rust in Peace IMO. Some of the songs are a little more stripped back and showcase better songwriting than the technicality of Rust In Peace which I tend to prefer. They're definitely close to each other though. I haven't listened to this in forever, but Peace Sells is soooo catchy.
